Sounds of the Eighth Season
Sven Väth
Cocoon
Väth offers up the best from another mad season in Ibiza with hot house and techno cuts from Pepe Bradock, Argy and Joris Voorn. A quality excursion.

Nervous Nitelife: Mass Movement
Joe Bermudez
Nervous
Equally adept at rocking celebrity parties or remixing for Hillary Duff, Shania Twain, and Gabriel & Dresden, Boston’s Bermudez is sure to move you. This mix brings forth several of his own mixes, plus winning tracks from John Dahlback, Chris Lake, and Joris Voorn.

"Juror No. 9"
Adultnapper
Audiomatique
On this techy minimal groover, Adultnapper (aka NYC’s Francis Harris) eases from submarine click-clacks to foreboding horror vibes. “Gaiser’s Found Guilty Remix” infuses a little more kick, but it’s no less warped in the paranoia dept. Wicked.

Bob Sinclair: Live At The Playboy Mansion
Bob Sinclair
Defected
Taking the best cuts from the disco days (both in the U.S. and in his native France) and interspersing them with newer tracks from Roger S, Dennis Ferrer, and Sinclar himself, this is an instant party in a box.
- Paul Dailey

"Let's Go"
Paul van Dyk feat. Rea
Vandit/Mute
The delightfully poppy single features this year’s best Bono impersonation by vocalist Rea. The “PVD Club Mix” stretches the track out to its extended, booming-4/4 glory, while Alex Kunnari’s pared-down version borders on prog-house and the “Martin Roth Nu Style Mix” gives a nod to techno.

"Fortune Cookie" b/w "Rise and Fall/RIP Cristian"
Oliver Moldan
Rapid Response
On this quality two-tracker from Germany’s Moldan, “Rise and Fall” starts simple, but builds into a dancefloor destroyer. Then “Fortune Cookie” drops trippy keys, chunky bass and a tension-filled breakdown. A rising star.

A Chemical Imbalance
Martinez
Re:connected
More minimal madness on this mixed CD of original tracks. Hump the tiny, ticky groove of “Tuna Belly,” swim in the bubbly, underwater vibes of “Razor-Blade” or spaz out to the warped late-nighter “Sinus Wave.” Wonderfully wobbly.

"D.A.N.C.E."
Justice
Ed Banger
Way cool new club workout that brings elements of electro house and deep house to the table. Several mixes bring out the best of this cut, not the least of which is the “Bermudez & Preve Hung Jury Mix” with its rugged vibe and quirky vocals. And we’re loving that gorgeous chord break—very cool. The “Justice Remix 1 & 2” are both more on that extreme electro vibe.

Back In The Box: "Little" Louie Vega
Louie Vega
NRK
Paying tribute to the hottest underground club tracks of the ’90s, Vega drops it like it’s hot with his seamless mixing on this double-CD. With cuts like Crystal Waters’ “Gypsy Woman,” Mighty Dub Katz’s “Its Just Another Groove,” and Sounds of Blackness’ “The Pressure,” this comp reads like a best-of from that decade of slammin’ tunes. Superb.

Ralph Lawson's 2020 Vision
Ralph Lawson
20/20 Vision
Unlike outings from other imprints, this “label-only” mix comp doesn’t suffer from lack of in-house quality. Instead, label boss Lawson drops bombs from Paul Woolford, Burnski, Spirit Catcher and his own 2020 Sound System. Tough tunes all the way through.

Viva London
Steve Lawler
Renaissance
Packed with some of the nastiest tracks you’ll hear, this comp’s basslines are sure to rattle the dishes right out of their cabinets. This 2-CD set includes bombs from Dubfire and Nils Noa feat. Dave Sinister, plus two new Lawler scorchers, “Violet” and “Courses For Horses.”
- Joe Bermudez

"Amazing"
Seal
Warner Bros.
A wicked number with some top remixes, including a pair from Kaskade, who drops his familiar soulful, bouncy house vibe. The pair from Thin White Duke brings a fierce proggy style, while Bill Hamel drops three tough and capable mixes as well.

Download Corner

Each month in this space, DJ Times will dig through the virtual crates to give you a quick sample of the plethora of extraordinary tracks available exclusively on legal download—care of our favorite next-generation “record” stores (e.g. Beatport, Stompy, etc).

This month’s picks:
“Let Me Think About It” (Club Mix) by Ida Corr vs. Fedde Le Grand [Data Records]: Already a huge pop hit in the U.K., its driving beat lays the foundation for catchy vocals and a tough synth line. The breakdown gives way to strings and even a touch of jazz trumpet—a floor-filler for sure. Found at xpressbeats.com.

“Wet” (Original Mix) by Dave Hughes [Playloop Records]: From his “Messages” EP comes a slow burning stomper that gradually builds from a grinding bassline to a full-out techy romp with chanting vocal stabs, bursts of sub bass and swelling keyboards. Found at beatport.com.

“The Cure and The Cause” (Cube Guys Rem) by Fish Go Deep [Strictly Rhythm]: The Cube Guys pump up the ethereal original vocal with a tribal electro sound with enormous breakdowns for the big rooms. Syncopated percussive accents and ’80s-style keys add to the fervor. Found at beatport.com.
