Yamaha’s Loop Factory

The SU200 Loop Factory Sampling Unit is a phrase sampler and effects processor designed for any DJ, MIDI or live set-up. Targeted for remixers, the SU200 lets individual samples have their own sampling rates. A CD with a 44.1 kHz produces up to 41.6 seconds/mono. If you need more sampling time or a lo-fi sound, the SU200 lets users choose a rate of 22, 11 or 6kHz for up to 333 seconds. A SmartMedia slots lets you import and export WAV files so you can download your favorite samples from the Internet and on to your computer for further editing or storage. FLASH memory stores all your samples, even when the power is turned off. The SU200 also has a Loop Track Play mode with an internal BPM sync that is designed to automatically synchronize playback of multiple samples and loops with different tempos. Three banks of eight sample pads provide quick access to up to 24 sounds. A Loop Remix feature creates sample loop variations while the Slice functions to change the groove and feel of a loop. Both features work “on the fly.” A MIDI clock sync lets the SU200 integrate with sequenced MIDI tracks. The multi- track’s filters and effects can be applied to external audio sourc- es, like your turntables, in real time. The Resampling function is designed to let users add scratches, filter sweeps, delays and effects like Tech Mod also in real time. Two real time effect control knobs, an LCD interface and a “Tap” and “Hold” button provide hands-on control. Large, blinking red lights let users see what they’re doing even in the darkest club. An audio CD with drum sounds, bass lines and beat samples is also included.

Leviton Protects Your Busses

Leviton’s surge protection device is designed to suppress transient voltage surges for products that work on SERIPLEX Control Bus networks. Its interface connections are made through the device’s five-pin unsealed screw connectors. The surge protective device provides low clamping voltages and can hold up against high transient current surges that sometimes happen in harsh electromagnetic environments. The surge protector can be connected to the ground in two ways, either with a ground tab that’s sized for ¼-inch studs lets users connect it to ground frames and a low-inductance ground braid strap is also included for times when ground tabs won’t fit. A non-conductive DIN rail-mounting mechanism also comes with the surge protector that’s designed for 35mm standard and 32mm “G”-type rail types. This surge protector is designed to provide protection using connections that are compatible with off the shelf 5-pin screw terminal connectors. Dual-redundant protection is offered for transients going into or out of the protector with automatic reset-PTC fusing. The surge protector is backed by Leviton’s five-year limited warranty.

Denon’s DN-1800F Dual CD Player

In a pearl white, all-metal chassis, Denon’s DN-1800F features bright LEDs that illuminate disc holders, and a pitch bend of +/-18-percent controlled through both a jog wheel and standard buttons. Playback can be sped up to +40-percent using the “Plat” function by turning the jog wheel clockwise, while playback can be slowed to –50-percent if you turn the jog wheel counter-clockwise. The DN-1800F’s “Cue Stutter” mode plays momentary audio when the Cue button is pressed down. When Cue is released, the CD Player recues to its original point. Digital SPDIF outputs, in addition to traditional analog outputs, let the CD player dub directly to a digital recorder (MD, DAT, CD-R, etc.) or be digitally connected to an outboard processor or mixing console. Several seconds per drive of “shock-proof” memory guards against dropouts caused by bumps or vibrations from the floor, a helpful feature for mobile DJs and nightclub-installed applications. Each drive has a Playback button that lets you choose Single/Continuous/Relay play and a Relay Playback mode can be set independently for each drive. If you set both drives to Relay Playback, you can continuously play tracks back and forth between the two. A Sleep function automatically shuts down the disc rotation motors if, after, say, 30 minutes, nothing’s happening. Another function, designed with you forgetful types in mind, closes the disc tray automatically if they’re left open for more than 30 seconds. Other features include dual jog/shuttle wheels, 10-segment “countdown” bar graph for a visual of the current track’s position, an adjustable pitch range of +\- 10-percent on Pitch sliders and a 0.01 Instant Start.
