Give Todd
Terry credit for not standing still.
Having
long ago conquered the club world and then briefly making radio
safe for house music – in the guise of his remix of Everything But
The Girl’s "Missing" – Todd Terry could’ve continued cashing
in on simply being Todd Terry. His reputation in the dance music
community cased forever, pricey remixes and high-end European DJ
gigs could’ve paid the bills and bought the toys, while he made
slammin’ house records in perpetuity. It’s a situation many DJs
would envy, but as Terry will tell you, that’s not what he’s about.

Iowa is
better known for its corn crop, tenderloin sandwiches and "Field
of Dreams" than its DJs. But in recent years Des Moines DJ
crew the Sound Proof Coalition has tried to change that perception.
One member, 22-year-old
Sid Wilson, has helped raise the Iowa capitol’s music profile as
the DJ for ultra-metal rock troupe Slipknot.
By adding well-placed
scratches and noisy soundscapes to the group’s otherwise pulverizing
attack, Wilson – aka DJ Starscream aka "0" – infuses a
little turntablism flavor to Slipknot’s accelerated din. On the
group’s latest release, Slipknot (I Am/TVT), Wilson’s scratching
stands as the centerpiece to the rhythmic cruncher "Purity"
and his phase-shifted deck work adds a creepy character to the deliberate
gut-puncher "Prosthetics."

Publishing
"Bridal News".
Tired
of your annual bridal show preparation? Your marketing packet is great,
right? Full-color fold out, sharp photos, real snazzy, but there’s
something missing, isn’t there?
I
was thinking just that, last fall, as I was assembling my marketing
packet for the annual bridal-show rite. There had to be some creative
way to incorporate my "sales pitch" to brides in a medium
that didn’t appear to be such an obvious selling tool.
I
stumbled across an idea from Teri Elwyn of Music To Go in St. Louis.
For years, Teri has been publishing the Music To Go Bridal News,
which she hands out at bridal shows.
