New Clay Paky Lights

Clay Paky, distributed by Group One, has added to its projector line the V.I.P. 150 PFC and V.I.P. PRO. Based on the V.I.P. 300 model, these newer models feature an HQI-T 150 W lamp. The PFC model gives you 6,000 lamp life hours, while the PRO version gives you a whopping 9,000. Both of the models are designed to have a 13,000 lumens light output and a color temperature of 4,200-degrees Kelvin. The Standard VIP 150 model features an improved power factor, which uses just over 150 W and has temperatures similar to the VIP DIA. Another model, the VIP 250 ALO ST, is modeled after the compact SIP body with the added flexibility of optional motorized accessories of the VIP 250 ALO. The projector is powered by an external transformer or by lower voltage guides. The units are designed to be used in small spaces. The VIP 300 PFC and the VIP DIA PFC both have the same features as the standard 300 and VIP DIA, respectively, but have an added internal power factor condenser (PFC). This is so you can conserve energy (you’ll use 400 VA instead of 800 VA). This unit can also be installed on standard projectors, contained in a closed casing.

The Flying Pig & The Hog

No, it’s not an English pub; it’s a PC program that transfers Wholehog (R) II lighting console’s functions to your personal computer. The Hog PC runs on any Windows 95 or 98 computer and includes a USB device that lets you output DMX using a range of DMX output devices like Printer Port dongles, USB dongles and Ethernet output boxes. Up to four DMX universes can be controlled from one Hog PC. Once the Hog PC is running, light shows programmed on a console can be run from a computer using third-party software (PC Anywhere or Timbuktu) and you can then program cues and remotely run a show. The Hog PC also features an astronomical/realtime clock and can interface directly with WYSIWYG on another computer through an Ethernet connection.

QSC's RMX Series

The RMX Series amplifier line, which includes models RMX 850, RMX 1450 and RMX 2450, feature high-current toroidal transformers for 2-ohm performance. The amps, which offer 830, 1400 and 2400 watts, respectively, include low-frequency filters to boost system, response, protect speakers and to make sure low-end tightness more precisely matches the amp’s range to the loudspeakers. Independent user-defeatable clip limiters also come with the amps to cut down on distortion. Other features include front-mounted gain controls for easy access, signal and clip LED indicators to monitor performance, balanced ¼-inch (6.3 mm) TRS, XLR and barrier strip inputs, binding posts and Neutrik Speakon outputs, independent DC and thermal overload protection on each channel so that speakers and amps are automatically protected, and a continuously variable speed fan with back-to-front airflow to keep everything cool. Each model is a 2-RU, 16-inch deep (19-inch rack mounting) and weighs 35 to 45 pounds, depending on the model.

Crest's ST and LT Series

Crest Audio’s new ST and LT Series amplifiers are designed to be used in fixed installations, nightclubs, A/V rentals and in mobile DJ set-ups. The ST Series are class D amplifiers with switching power supplies that use a zero-power switching technology. This switching technology is designed to sound like a classic linear supply but without the size, weight and thermal waste. The ST Series has a frequency response of 10 Hz-20 kHz with THD less that 0.05-percent at rated power and tops off at 1000 WPC @ 4ohms. The LT Series also features the linear power supply combined with a Class D amplifier. This series’ linear-toroid transformers are designed to be not as large or heavy as traditional linear supply due to the new Class D output stage that’s 93-percent efficient. The LT Series has a frequency response of 10 Hz-20 kHz with THD less than 0.05-percent at rated power.

ETA Distributes The Power

The PD420VS from ETA Systems is a conditioned power distribution unit that has a sequential powering up and down feature and the ability to link-up, daisy-chain style, to any number of units. With an 80-amp capacity, each of its four 20-amp circuits has a spike/surge protection and EMI/RFI filtration. Four stages make up the sequential powering up and down feature, each stage has its own circuit, with four preset intervals of 1, 5, 10 and 30 seconds between stages and an optional manual setting. Sequential turn-on is designed to guard against high in-rush current. Any number of units can be linked together through a two-wire, non-polar screw terminals or RCA cable connectors on the back panel. You can separate the master unit from each slave unit by a maximum of 1,000 feet while still maintaining signal integrity. Remote control turn-on is available through a low voltage terminal block also on the back panel. A relay turn-on option is also available through internal PC board connectors. The four 20-amp circuits are breaker protected and equipped with either four or two dual U-grounded Edison NEMA 5-2R outlet receptacles and a 5-buss terminal block for field hook-up. Electrical power can come from two or three legs of 120/208 volt, three phase power or 120/240 volt single-phase power. A digital voltmeter that never sleeps displays reading incoming voltage can also read out each phase of a 208-volt line through a three-position switch. All units come with a three-year limited warranty.

Zoom's Palm Top Studio

Zoom’s PS-02 combines a “smart” multi-track recorder, drum and bass machine, guitar multi-effect processor, an amp modeler and a built-in microphone into a device small enough to slip into your pocket. Combining three audio tracks, the PS-02 lets you record a song with bass, drums, multi-effects, modeling and a built-in microphone. The three available audio tracks can be recorded directly onto a SmartMedia card. If you use tracks 2 and 3, the PS-02 lets you record in stereo. Its Bounce function has a panning capability so you can overdub, or bounce, several tracks without adding noise. Also available is a punch in/punch-out function. With a large enough SmartMedia card, you can record “test-takes” on each of the audio tracks using the Virtual track function. One of the takes can then be played back. Maximum recording time on the PS-02 depends on the SmartMedia card size. A 64 MB card will give you about 17 minutes in Stereo “Hi-Fi” mode and a 128 MB card will give you over two hours in mono “Normal” mode. The PS-02 gives you a choice of drum patterns, kits and mono bass sounds that can be sequenced to the audio tracks as well as a range of Zoom guitar multi-effects. In addition to the guitar effects, the PS-02 gives you guitar and bass modelling sounds that use proprietary VAMS technology, designed to give you the same quality as Zoom’s GM-200 Guitar Amp Modeler. Dedicated vocal effects can also be used with the PS-02’s built-in dynamic mic. Additional features include a back-lit LCD display and an autochromatic tuner, battery operation and includes an 8MB SmartMedia card, Power Supply unit and belt carry strap.
