Direct
From Denon
New for the
pro DJ comes Denon’s DP-DJ150 and DP-DJ100, two quartz-synthesized,
direct-drive turntables. The DP-DJ150 features SPDIF coaxial
digital output that lets DJs record directly onto an MD, CD-R,
DAT or hard disk while maintaining sound quality. Its digital
signal output is a constant 16 bits at 44.1 kHz regardless of
the turntable’s rotation speed. Like Denon’s DN-2600F dual CD
player, this turntable also features Denon’s “Key Adjust.” This
means that when you use its Line Out feature, the turntable
incorporates a built-in DSP that maintains a constant key even
when the rotation speed is changed. You can connect the DP-DJ150
directly to your amp, sampler or MD recorder using the built-in
phono equalizer. Like the DP-DJ150, the DP-DJ100 has a bi-directional
servo control direct drive motor with single body construction
that’s designed to deliver a start-up torque of 12.25 pounds
per inch (2.2 kg/cm). This shortens the time you have to wait
for your turntable to become stable enough for scratching. Three
RPM speeds are available: 33 1/2, 45 and 78. The turntable has
a continuously changeable pitch range of +\- 12-percent and
fine pitch adjustments are made by a long-stroke slide lever.
Both the DP-DJ150 and DP-DJ100 feature a built-in, one-touch
electronic brake mechanism that immediately activates the brake,
which is then automatically released when the turntable stops.
On the DP-DJ150, you have three time options to stop the turntable,
normal, medium or slowest. The DP-DJ100 gives you two options:
normal and medium. The turntables also feature a VTA adjustment
range of 6mm on the S-shaped static balance tone arm to minimize
vertical tracking errors, pop-up target light to illuminate
the stylus when you’re cueing a record, a detachable AC power
cord and RCA cables for easier maintenance.

Gemini’s
UMX-9 Mixer

Gemini’s
UMX Series mixers come equipped with Proglide crossfaders. VCA
technology processes the audio by removing it from the crossfader

sacrificing audio quality. The UMX-9, first in this series,
features an assignable crossfader with a curve control knob,
three stereo channels and a cue section. It has gain, high,
mid and low tone controls on each channel as well as a cut feature.
Also included are three phono/line convertible inputs, two line
inputs and one mic input. Other features are balanced and unbalanced
master outputs, zone and record outputs and master output peak
to hold LED meters. Prefader input level peak hold LED meters
on each channel, adjustable assign switches, channel slide curve
control, crossfader with curve control knob and a crossfader
reverse (hamster) switch are also included.

once. The cuts are displayed graphically on top of the cut editor
window. Settings are shown below, subdivided into three sections
under Type, Length and Splice. The program also lets you select
both the graphic waveform display and cross fade presets. Spark

runs independently of Spark application. It runs within programs
like Cubase, Vision, Logic and Digital Performer. The FXMatrix
within the Master View can be used as a plug-in adapter so that
users of Mark of the Unicorn can access any VST plug in. It
also lets MOTU/MAS users run the new VST/MAS compatible Native
