Chemical
Beatdown
Right
out the gate, the buzz that accompanied the release of the Chemical
Brothers’ 1997 full-length Dig Your Own Hole (Astralwerks)
had few precedents. Not since "Girl’s on Film"-era Duran
Duran had rock music witnessed hype of such amplitude. The Rio Boys,
of course, had an easier time of it; they only needed to stay pretty
for MTV. The Chemical Brothers, on the other hand, were burdened with
leadership of the new, huge ever-growing pulsating menschmachine
school.

What's
Your Source?
|
Whether
you are spinning vinyl, mixing CDs, dropping tracks from Mini-Disc
or just playing parties with cassettes, it’s time to check your
source components.
What do I mean? Are you using those old, worn-out belt-drive turntables?
Does your CD player resemble that first VCR that your parents bought?
You get the picture. Having the world’s best-sounding DJ rig with
lame source components is a cryin’ shame. You might think your
system is fine with what you have, but if you are in the market
for new source components or think it’s time to upgrade your equipment,
I’ll go over some choices that I am fond of.

How
Mobile Redefines
Interactive Madness.
|
As
a partner at Vogel and Mongelli in Hackensack, N.J., Joe Mongelli
concentrates on business and commercial law. Also, under his legal
eye are several mobile DJ companies. At last year’s International
DJ Expo, Mongelli moderated "Legal Wrangling for Mobiles,"
a panel that offered an overview on contracts, insurance and lease
agreements, among others.
Based on his discussions with attendees at the Expo, Mongelli believes
that a large number of DJs are unaware of legal issues that can
protect them from liability. "At the DJ Expo I saw an incredible
amount of money being spent on equipment," says Mongelli. "Equipment
that should be protected from liability and creditors in case there’s
a loss situation. And the amount of response I received at the Expo
from people who are unincorporated, to me, didn’t make any monetary
sense or business sense."
