Denon’s DN-2600F

Denon’s new DN-2600F is a dual CD player featuring “Hot Start.” Designed to instantaneously change a track or cue point, Hot Start buttons can control the CD player’s Stutter mode. This mode plays momentary audio when the buttons are pressed down, but, once released, re-cues to the original point. The Effector mode lets you customize the frequency filter, reverb and flanger effects. A Tap/BPM button can synchronize the reverb and flanger effects to the music’s BPM count producing reverb decays and flange sweeps. The DN-2600F lets you write your own samples (up to 16 seconds) that can be played back anytime without the source CD. The sample’s pitch and output level can then be played in forward or reverse and its pitch, output level and other adjustment functions can manipulate its sound. The Digi-Scratch effect simulates analog vinyl scratching, while Platter Start and Stop imitate the start and stop of turntable playback. A jog dial in Platter Hold changes the pitch control, and makes it sound like a record is being sped up or slowed down. Other features include Brake Effect, Key Control and Key Adjust – all controllable through the DN-2600F’s jog dials. Pitch Bend is +/- 32-percent. Rotary Track Selector and Data Master knobs replace the number pads and the CD player’s buttons are back-lit for visibility in low-light situations. The DN-2600F’s Custom memory can store Hot Starts, A-B Loop points and Pitch percents up to 300 tracks for recall later. Ten seconds of shock-proof memory is provided for each drive, protecting the audio from bumps and other hard vibrations. A-B Seamless looping is now on two completely independent loops per drive. Next Track Reserve is designed for seamless jumping between tracks.

Vocoder in Effect
If you’re a remixer looking to capitalize on the vocoder craze, Independent Audio will launch DAC’s new FwS VoCoder, which also functions as a 16-frequency and bandwidth filter. Each filter has its own gain setting from unity to fully off in both Filter and VoCoder modes. In VoCoder mode, the frequency content of the MODULATE input is taken and superimposed on the SOURCE input-talking guitars, guitar playing talk drumming voice, voicey strings and brassy guitars. In Filter mode, the frequency gain control settings set the level of each band from unity gain to fully off. The mode setting is continually variable between the two extremes so that the level of each frequency can be boosted to a greater or lesser extent. This is due to the content of the MODULATE input. The TRANSPOSE function takes the MODULATE input frequency content and raises or lowers it by an octave, fully balanced I/O line, mic and guitar MODULATE inputs.
