Lighter SKB Turntable Case

SKB has introduced a single turntable case that the company says is the lightest on the market. This foam-lined case is made from SKB’s “military-style” molded polyethylene. The case’s bumper system has been engineered to protect the hardware and absorb shock. Gasket seals protect the turntable from dust and rain. The lid separates from the base and interlocks to create a pedestal while the turntable is in use. Lockable, cam action latches complete the package, which weighs less than 10 pounds.

Catch Some ZZZs

Rane Corporation has updated its X Active Crossfader mixers with three new Z versions. The MP 24z no loss crossfader offers unity gain in the middle. The MP 22z offers contour control on the crossfader, with a choice of conventional crossfade, overlap, tight scratch or settings in-between. MM 8z also has contour control, adding Pre and Post assignments on channels 1 and 4. The user can bypass the crossfader to add drumbeats and samples, or add another mixer without affecting the crossfader signal.

The new models have added a floating tone-arm system to eliminate howling, feedback and skipping. The PDX-a1 has a new chassis, available in a choice of red, blue or silver, plus a repositioned power switch on the top panel and an oversized start/stop button. The PDX-a2 battle style turntable still has two large start/stop buttons on both sides of the platter and conveniently-located pitch control.

Spiral Graph Provides Kaleidoscope

American DJ’s Spiral Graph produces a multi-colored and multi-textured wallpaper-like pattern on walls. The smaller model, created for mobile DJs, weighs 8 pounds and uses a 12-volt, 75-watt light. The larger, 400-watt model, the Spiral Graph/400 weighs 28 pounds and includes two separate color and texture wheels that rotate independently. The wide beam spread on the unit makes it well-suited for wall washes. Both fixtures come with a hanging bracket and can be used with 120-volt or 220-volt operation.

Optimum’s the Word

Quik Lok has introduced the OS-Series of near-field monitor stands, the OS-136 and OS-142. The units stand 36- and 42-inches high, respectively. The vertical, compartmentalized, steel metal support column insures that the 11-by-11-inch monitor platform will not tilt or vibrate under an active monitor speaker. A large internal compartment for “sand deadening” helps eliminate stand resonance, while self-adhesive, non-slip rubber padding further helps to reduce vibrational resonance. A wire management system channels wires through the interior of the support column, which means no messy wires in sight. A large footprint, triangular base adds to the stability of the unit, which is easily assembled with an Allen wrench that is included.
