ADJ Raids the Jewelry Box

After redesigning new versions of four of its most popular lighting effects, American DJ has released these new generations complete with new carrying case. The Jewel III, Mini-Gem II, Sparkle II and Crystal II are all Moonflower-type lighting effects that come with a clear-color mirror and pre-cut color gels. The gels change the formerly white beam to red, blue, green or yellow. An optional Z-DW, Z-DW1 or Z-DW2 multi-color dichroic mirror creates different colored beams simultaneously. The Jewel III is a sound-activated effect designed for dance clubs and bands that casts beams of light that rotate back and forth to the music’s beat. A ZB-64514 120V 300W lamp comes with it. The Mini-Gem II is another sound-activated effect. It features a less intense lamp, a ZB-64610, 12V, 300 W, that rotates back and forth to the music.
The Sparkle II is a rotating moonflower whose lights gyrate across the room independent of the music. It also comes with a ZB-6461012V 50 W lamp. All three light effects weigh a mere 3 pounds and measure 6-x-6-x-10-inches. Even better, they’re all fan-cooled and come with a hanging bracket for easy mounting. The Crystal II, a non-rotating moonflower, is the smallest of the four. It measures 4.75-x-4.75-x-7-inches and weighs 2.5 pounds. It has a ZB-64610 12V 50W lamp and makes a great home party lighting effect. The effects new case is designed to make access to the effects’ lamp and dicro dish just a little bit easier. With the new case, DJs should find it easier to access the effects lamp and dicro dish.

Pioneer Takes DJing Digitally

DJs can now take DJing one step further, thanks to Pioneer New Media Technologies’ release of the Stealth/CMX-5000 “auto-beat mixing” twin CD player, designed with DJs in mind. The CMX-5000 is similar to other rack-mount CD players in the industry for nightclub and mobile DJs, but for the addition of an on board computer. This computer analyzes the beats of the music playing for you, adjusts the next song to match the beats per minute and mixes one song into another. It also gives you your choice of four different blends and mix effects (standard crossfade, cold cut, echo and jog break). Additionally, the CMX-5000 has master tempo, fader start/back cue play, seamless looping, re-looping, digital outs, super fast track search and track scan along with a large jog dial with a turntable feel. Notable features include two types of skip resistance technology, a buffer of eight seconds per transport and an “oil damper shock absorbing system” and Legato Link Conversion.
This linking mechanism is designed to improve the sound of the CD by improving the bandwidth from 20kHz to 40kHz while linking digital music samples together every 20.8 nanoseconds.
