New Sounds From Electro-Harmonix

Electro-Harmonix has reissued its Frequency Analyzer Ring Modulator. The effect can be used to change the sound of synthesizers or any other instrument – even DJ source material. The device uses special double sideband circuitry to generate new notes above and below the original notes. The new notes can be tuned using the Shift and Fine control to produce exact harmonic multiples of the original note. A switchable, high order, low-pass filter eliminates cross distortions.

Unity Uses New Technology

From designer/engineer Thomas Danley comes a new loudspeaker using patented Unity Summation Aperture design. The Unity Series loudspeakers from Sound Physics Labs, the parent company of ServoDrive, Inc., use a pyramid-shaped, multi-band wave guide to combine the amplitude and phase from a variable number of drivers into a single coherent output. This creates better clarity for voice intelligibility and more precise music reproduction. The Unity XLF touring model, like the VFL contractor model, has controlled directivity in a 60-x-60 dispersion pattern and distortion-free performance of 130 dB.

Hamster Cage Needs No Cleaning

The new Hamster Cage from American DJ won’t hold a furry rodent, but it will make it easier for DJs to get the right mix when scratching vinyl. This reverse switch box – for use with scratch mixers – lets DJs change crossfades from channel one to channel two, and vice versa, with the flick of a switch. This allows for easier, one-handed mixing. The Hamster Cage plugs directly into turntables via an RCA phono line in and out.

The New Age Of Aquarius

Hot on the heels of the Spiral-Graph, another 1960s-inspired lighting effect, American DJ Supply introduces the Aquarius and Groove Wheel. These lights produce soft multi-textured washes of color that melt and blend together in free-form shapes. The Aquarius uses a Canon 50-mm camera lens to change the focus of the images displayed. Users can change the speed of the Aquarius’ rotation and color change, independent of the beat of the music. The Groove Wheel is a small oil wheel projector that creates full-size psychedelic patterns on any flat surface. The mini effect has a continuously rotating oil wheel to create a kaleidoscope effect.
