Sony Gets Onboard

Sony Electronics has unveiled the MDS-DRE1 MiniDisc recorder/player designed solely for the DJ market. The unit offers a slew of features, including the latest version of Adaptive Transform Acoustic Coding (ATRAC) compression technology, which enables the user to capture 74 minutes digital stereo audio on a 2-½-inch disc. Do the PowerWave

QSC Audio has released the PowerLight 9.0 PFC power amplifier. Using Power Factor Correction technology, this amp delivers 1,800 watts per channel at 8 ohms, 3,200 watts per channel at 4 ohms and 4,500 watts per channel at 2 ohms. Line and load regulation further enhance the amp’s power capacity, according to the company. Large-die, N-channel MOSFETs combine with a four-tiered DC supply to operate in the linear mode with low noise and distortion. The PL 9.0 uses surface mount components, a data port for amplifier mointoring and flow-through cooling with variable-speed fans. Outputs use Neutrik Speakons and special speaker terminals.
