It’s a big day for Ableton users, as the company has introduced the Live 9.5 update, a new version of its Push interface, and its new Link technology.

Ableton Live 9.5 is available as a free update for all Live 9 users and includes a slew of new and improved features. Live’s Simpler sampling instrument has been overhauled with a new interface, warping and slicing capabilities, and analog-modeled filters. The analog-modeled filters are based on classic hardware that will self-resonate, produce feedback, and distort accurately, and they are included in Sampler, Operator, and Auto Filter in addition to Simpler.

Live 9.5 also features enhanced meters and waveforms. Mixer volume meters show both peak and RMS levels, giving users an indication of sudden level changes in addition to perceived loudness. Smoother zooming and scrolling have also been implemented in Live 9.5’s waveforms. Live 9 Suite owners now have access to three new Max for Live synthesizers that offer a range of sound design possibilities with streamlined controls. The new instruments include the monosynth Bass, polyphonic synth Poli, and the Push-tweakable Multi. More information is available here.

The new Push features a crisp and colorful new display that adapts to show users what they need to see to stay in the creative flow. Library navigation, sample waveforms, effects paramets, and mixer levels are all visible on the screen, and all are tweakable via touch-sensitive encoders. Push now boasts fast and flexible sampling workflows that allow users to slice samples across the pads and play back single hits plus timestretched samples. Additionally, Push is equipped with redesigned pads that are softer, smoother, and more responsive.

For current Push users, Ableton has launched a unique trade-in program that allows owners to return their used unit and save up to 30% on a new one. All traded-in units will be refurbished and given to music education programs with copies of Live for free. More information is available here.

Finally, Ableton has revealed details of Link, which will be released soon to Live users as a free update. Link is a new technology that will let users play in time with multiple instances of Live as well as a number of iOS apps. Devices’ timing are synced over a wireless network, allowing for instant use. More information is available here.
