Being one of the lucky few to have a career in the electronic dance music spanning over a decade, Sydney Blu has simply seen it all.

With her recent release on Kerri Chandler’s esteemed MadTech imprint still in heavy rotation, “Runaway,” we caught up with the Toronto native to take a trip down memory lane breaking down her five favorite vinyl dance records of all time.

Sydney Blu’s Top 5 Vinyl Dance Records

Danny Tenaglia – ‘Turn Me On’ (Twisted)

This record is 10 Minutes long! 10 minutes of bliss. When I got into house music, Danny Tenaglia’s ‘Tourism’ was a big album. This track, sang by the legendary Liz Torres was the sexiest, dark house tune I had ever heard. I still listen to it and get chills. Danny Tenaglia was the first DJ I discovered and followed religiously when I started out. As soon as I was able to find this on vinyl I purchased the full single in addition to his Full-Length album ‘Tourism.’

Sandy Rivera – Dreams (Defected)

I played this record to death and so did a lot of people in Toronto when it came out. The vocal is mysterious and dark and the beat is perfect for an afterhours event, which I played a lot of over the course of my career. I used to play this record at Comfort Zone in Toronto, a legendary afterhours that went until Monday morning and also an afterhours club called Film Lounge. This is still one of my fav records to this day.

BPT ft. DM Binxter – Moody (Junior)

‘Moody’ is one of the first tunes I heard when I fell in love with House music in 1998. This track has a sexy vocal on it, with the vocalist Danny ‘Buddah’ Morales literally singing about ‘getting horny.’ The beat is groovy and dark, the perfect example of an early 2000’s progressive house set. This song was made known on Danny Tenaglia’s legendary Global Underground ‘Athens’ compilation CD1.

Pure Orange feat. Shane Nolan (Scumfrog Remix) (Stealth)

One of the best tunes in my opinion by The Scumfrog. This track was featured on his Essential Mix from 2003. The best part of the track is Scumfrog doing his own vocals on the record which totally turns it into a brand new record. Pure Orange was released on Roger Sanchez’s label Stealth and was a massive record when it came out, making The Scumfrog one of the hottest new artists during this era.

Depeche Mode – Behind the Wheel (Lexicon Avenue Remix) (Bootleg)

Lexicon Avenue had some of the best Depeche Mode bootleg’s. The first time I heard this song was Black and Blue Montreal (I think 2005) and Chus and Ceballos were playing it to a packed Olympic Stadium. I bought the bootleg on vinyl from the record store not long after and played it in all of my sets. The track still gives me chills when I hear it, because it stayed true to Depeche Mode’s original song yet also is perfect for a big club late night.
