San Diego – You’ve heard of Miami’s Winter Music Conference and Detroit’s Movement Electronic Music Festival. You know them because they’re big events that bring out some of the best electronic music artists, professionals, and enthusiasts on earth. People fly from all over to meet new friends, listen to worship-worthy DJ/artists and, of course, dance. They also started small and local. Every festival has an inaugural year.

West Coast Weekender, a three-day music conference, will take place for the first time May 13-15 in San Diego, Calif., catering to over 3,000 music fans. Talent from across the country will participate in daytime panel discussions moderated by DJ Times and Fusicology and play parties that will run from afternoon to early morning.

And the DJ talent on tap is notable. West Coast Weekender will present performances from Doc Martin, Miguel Migs, Dara, Osunlade, Rich Medina, Christian Martin, Gene Farris and many more, including some special surprise guests.

With a strong focus on local art and industry, West Coast Weekender truly pays homage to the American westside’s rich underground electronic music scene. The opening party will be at Spin Nightclub, a longstanding underground and after-hours electronic music venue located in an industrial area just outside of downtown San Diego. The rest of the weekend will take place at the World Beat Center, a multi-cultural arts and music organization, in historic Balboa Park. There will be no shortage of ways to revel in the city’s beautiful landscape with this tight-knit community of music enthusiasts.

The organizers include members of Siesta Records, I’ll House You, Soul on Beat, Art of Sound, SD Union, United by Bass, and The Deep End, among other sponsors and partners, many of whom have cultivated the electronic-music landscape on the West Coast for more than a decade and are deeply invested in the success of the community.

Oscar and Jessica Poche (I’ll House You, Media Services NYC) have coordinated and facilitated destination travel events for over ten years at Miami’s Winter Music Conference. More recently, Jessica added Movement Festival Detroit (formerly DEMF) and Mi Casa Holiday (Mexico) to their client list. The pair relocated from New York City to San Diego in 2015, bringing their professional experience and a mission to blossom the West Coast’s fresh energy into a dance music destination.

Over the last ten years, United By Bass/SD UNION has provided high quality multi-genre electronic music events throughout San Diego County. Specializing in drum-n-bass, United By Bass adds a unique flavor to an already impressive line-up.

Eric Medina, one of the Weekender’s organizers says, “We want to showcase the culture and underground scene of California and bring more exposure to something special that’s been happening here for a long time in San Diego.”

Both new and seasoned enthusiasts of underground music culture will discover something new to celebrate at West Coast Weekender. Join us.
