Welcome to the first edition of “Behind the Wedding Music,” a resource to help build wedding playlists for DJs. Each month we will highlight new songs and include a line of song lyrics, a description of the song’s emotional profile and a few fun facts — designed to help you advise a bride or groom if they’re looking for something fresh in their playlist.

Here are the new songs for February 2020:

1. 17
Pink Sweat$
(February 28, 2020)

Notable Lyrics: “I just want to dance with you, floating over marble floors”

The song and the video for “17” depict a romantic love story from falling in love in high school to growing old together.

Facts: Pink Sweat$ (real name David Bowden) received his nickname from — you guessed it — always wearing pink sweatpants. What Purple was to Prince, pink is to Pink Sweat$, as his videos so florally demonstrate. His first song to chart, “Honesty,” was released in July 2018.

2. God Whispered Your Name
Keith Urban
(February 27, 2020)

Notable Lyrics: “Girl, it’s like I’ve been baptized, By the warmth of your smile”

“God Whispered Your Name” is a self-observing song that talks about how loving a woman changed his life.

Facts: It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 30 years since Urban released his first album, Keith Urban, in 1991. He’s still in the game and this year will be big for him: he’s hosting the ACM awards and has a residency at Caesars Palace — both in Las Vegas.
